Choose Your Mystery Kit

I promised choices for kits for the Mystery Sunday - I really can't wait for this class - fun, fun people have signed up for both the sleuthing and the wenching jobs.  Plus, while  looking for the yummiest food, I've earmarked way too many pages in my cookbooks so I'll have to edit.  I took the pictures of the kit choices myself, with no help from blog-guru, Juliette, so I hope they work here.  I want her to be proud of me!  If you've already signed up, call with the number of the kit you'd like.  274-1443.   And, THERE'S STILL ROOM IN THE MYSTERY CLASS!!

My Ladies

I have amazing women who work for me.  I think the most difficult thing about owning a store is employees, and I've lucked out.  Last week on Monday I came to work to find new fabrics had arrived since I'd worked on Thursday, new bag patterns I'd ordered from Australia had arrived, too.  And Sandy had made up a sample of one of the bags out of the new fabrics (Gardenia).  It tickled me and pleased me so much.  So, Barbara McF, Sandy, Dana, Barbara H and Lisa, you rock.  Here's the bag -

Can I Say This?

Yikes!!  I got my March, 2008 Quilters Newsletter a couple days ago.  Thumbing through it, I noticed, on page 23, a 2/3 page ad from a very famous place for a Fanciful Felines kit.  It cost $69.98.  It's the exact same kit we made up, except we tweaked the free pattern from Benartex, the fabric company, to improve it, and made copies for the kits.   Our kit is $22.50.  Check it out under our "kits".

Mystery SOLVED!

After taking a mini-class on this idea, I've been excited to have a Sunday Mystery!  Here's how it works:  Since the store won't be open, we can shove displays out of the way and set up lots of tables for machines. The students (sleuths) will receive a kit and clues about constructing blocks for a wall quilt;  helpers (wenches) will speed up the sewing process by ironing, picking, and keeping sleuths organized.  Oh, and lots of great food will be available all day...I love cooking more than I love quilting.  The Mystery is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 10 at 10:00 a.m.

We need two things:  students (sleuths) and helpers (wenches)

Sleuths:  choose a kit from the selection that'll be available here on the blog in a day or two, call 274-1443 with a credit card and kit choice.  Cost is $45.

Wenches:  come outfitted with walking shoes, a ripper and a willingness, nay, a determination, to help sleuths complete their quilts.  Your reward will be free food, a kit, and an "I'm a Whimsy Wench" T-shirt for the day.

Enchanted Autumn

Autumn_2

Hey, Everyone - it's been too long since I've written;  I was out of town for a week and my computer was out of house for a WEEK being fixed.  But now we're reunited and I hope my PC is as happy about it as I am.  I missed her.  I knew when I left her at the fixit shop that no work would get done:  no signs or labels for the store, no bookkeeping, no quilt designing, no blogging.  But it was much worse than that.  I've never considered myself a "computer" person - any time I've spent with my computer was necessary;  nothing frivolous like surfing;  she's a tool.  However, I realized the first day she wasn't here that she's an integral part of my routine;  I have my cup of coffee with her in the morning and I sit with her as soon as I get home from work (well, after greeting my dogs for several minutes).  I rambled around the house trying to figure out what to do with myself and all that free time.  It was so unexpected.  So, in the future, I'll edit my negative remarks about her and keep in mind how I really feel about her.

The Autumn Quilt is done and the charts for kitting are so close to being finished.  Do you have any druthers about whether it's a Block of the Month) where I charge your credit card and mail you a block kit every month) or one big, fat kit?  Please let me know.

Flirtations

This is new today - called Flirtations - from a group by Sandy Gervais for Moda.  It's 28" x 32" and the kit is $16.  It goes together fast, fast, fast.

Mosaic5896536_2

Let's see... two new fabric lines, City Girl by Benartex and Gardenia by Linda Lum Debono for Henry Glass, plenty of fun Melly and me patterns, and a gorgeous applique quilt called Enchanted Autumn that could very well become part of a block of the month program...Stay tuned!
